Superheroes Unite to Make a Difference for Hartford’s Kids

Hartford’s Camp Courant’s 120th season ended with a ‘bang’ as community superheroes descended on  the ‘Superhero Headquarters’ in Farmington to pledge their support at the 15th annual ‘Buddy Bash’ celebration.  Close to 450 friends and special guests activated their ‘secret powers’ and raised $175,000 for the nation’s oldest and largest FREE summer program. 2014 was a special year, not only for the dynamic Buddy Bash returns, but for the yearlong effort in celebrating HCC’s 120th anniversary of service to the children of the capital city. Established in 1894 by a group of dedicated Hartford Courant (Lead Sponsor) employees, HCC has stood the test of time in providing a sustainable outreach service to hundreds of thousands of Hartford’s children.

The evening was ‘action packed’ featuring a silent and live auction, delicious food sponsored by the Max Restaurant Group (Lead Sponsor), entertainment options provided both Powerstation Events (Lead Sponsor) and the ‘Street Vipers’, and  a great variety of beer, wine and spirits provided by Hooker Brewery, Geno Auriemma Wines, and Winam Wines.

Co-Chairs for the event were Jill Albertelli (Vice President, Pratt & Whitney Global Supply Chain) who assisted in securing a lead event sponsorship from United Technologies, along with Jay Arcata (Vice President, ThinkRisk Underwriting Agency/HCC Board of Directors) who dedicated significant time and resources to ensure the event was an ‘out of this world’ success. The night was highlighted by a formal presentation—hosted by the ‘dynamic duo’ of Fox CT’s Jennifer Bernstein and Tim Lammers—recognizing Camp’s ‘Superheroes of the Year’, The Hartford and Jim Altman (Fox CT), for their tireless dedication to Camp over a substantial period of time.

For over a century, it has been the mission of HCC to provide a FREE summer program, where Hartford’s children can develop positive relationships, learn, and most importantly have fun each summer. As Camp’s superheroes departed campus on that beautiful September evening, they reinforced the community’s commitment to make a difference for the youth of Hartford for many years to come!
