Camp Info

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As the oldest and largest FREE summer day camp in the nation, we are excited to once again bring Hartford’s children warm days filled with moments of excitement, fun, friendship, and self-confidence this coming spring and summer.

As we enter prepare for another year, Camp Courant’s mission remains the same: to provide Hartford’s youth equal opportunity to participate in recreational and educational experiences that balance fun with enrichment while expanding horizons, instilling confidence, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and inspiring big dreams for the future. Campers become part of a historic camp community that continues to grow and evolve but has also stood the test of time for 130 years.

The Camp Courant staff is working diligently to provide your child(ren) with memorable experiences, filled with fun and educational activities, all in a safe, positive, and fun environment during our spring (April 8-12) and summer (June 24 – Aug. 02) programs. Please note: you MUST register for each program individually. Registering for one program does not secure your spot in the other. Please reach out to our staff with any questions.

Welcome to the Camp Courant family. 2024 is going to be our best year yet!

Sincerely,

Tim Uhl, Camp Director

Available bus stops are listed on the registration and are monitored by Camp Courant counselors. Campers must use the same bus stop every day. Camp is open rain or shine!  In the event of cancellation or emergency, you will receive notification via email, text and phone.

Medical Services

Bumps and scrapes are bound to occur at summer camp. To ensure our campers receive proper medical care in the event of an unfortunate incident, Hartford’s Camp Courant employs a full-time nurse who handles the day-to-day medical needs of our campers. In the case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the UConn Health Center, located just two minutes down the road.

Dental Screenings

Proper oral health plays a vital role in maintaining the overall health and wellness of children. Hartford’s Camp Courant has partnered with local periodontists to provide free dental screenings to all our campers, which includes a full exam of the mouth to identify tooth decay, bite and gum infections. Campers also receive a dental education less, toothbrushes, floss and toothpaste.  If any oral abnormalities are found, a referral is made to one of four partnering clinics in the City of Hartford.

Meals & Personal Belongings

Hartford’s Camp Courant is not responsible for personal belongings, and we highly encourage campers to leave anything of value at home. We suggest your camper wear closed-toed shoes, and bring a bathing suit and towel. If your camper does not have either, each will be provided. Camp Courant provides free breakfast and lunch, but each camper is welcome to bring their own food (microwave and refrigeration not available).
