$16,000 gift to Hartford’s Camp Courant Continues Partnership for 2014 Season
Ask any camper who attends Hartford’s Camp Courant (HCC) each summer about what their favorite activity is, and the hands down choice is ALWAYS participating in a refreshing dip in the Camp pool. Through a generous gift of $16,000 from the SBM Charitable Foundation, Hartford’s children will once again learn the basic fundamentals of swimming and water safety as a result of SBM’s ‘Swimming 101’ and ‘Guardstart’ programs. Each summer, Camp Courant provides instruction to hundreds of campers that allows them to enjoy a recreational activity for a life time, along with swimming essentials that one day may save their life. For over 120 years, it has been HCC’s mission to provide a FREE summer sanctuary where children can develop positive relationships, learn, and most importantly have fun. The continued partnership with SBM throughout 2014 allows the HCC campers to do just that and more. Established in 1894 as a social outreach program for Hartford’s children, HCC has grown into the oldest and largest FREE summer program currently in the United States. Serving just over 1100 campers during the 2013 season, HCC hopes to open its doors to an average of 650 Hartford residents during this summer’s six week session. With sunny skies and blazing temperatures on the horizon, Camp can guarantee the ‘Swimming 101’ and 'Guardstart' programs will be a camper favorite once again!
