Legal Powerhouse Provides Significant Funding for Hartford’s Children

Day Pitney Pledges Over $12,000 to Hartford’s Camp Courant for 2014 Camp Season

Hartford’s Camp Courant (HCC) has had a profound impact on the children of Hartford for 120 years, thanks in part to the generosity of leaders in the community who strive to create a world of possibility for young people. For many years, Day Pitney has supported Hartford’s Camp Courant, helping to make Camp a special place for the youth of Hartford. This year is not different, as Day Pitney has pledged a gift in excess of $12,000, including a gift of $8,000 presented on May 16, 2014, for programming enhancements and camperships to recognize HCC’s continued excellence and sustainability as the oldest and largest FREE summer program currently in the United States. As the founder of the ‘HCC Mock Trial’ program, Day Pitney and its partners provide a unique learning experience for campers that is not typically found in a summer program settings. HCC participants are exposed to difference facets of the law through legal curriculum, special presentations from law professionals, and field trips throughout the City showing how the law works to benefit others. The program culminates with an end of the season ‘trial’ in which campers take on all the tasks involved in preparing and conducting a trial, playing the roles of the various participants, and a presentation to the entire Camp for them to enjoy. According to Day Pitney’s Erick Sander, “It is the mission of Day Pitney and HCC that the Mock Trial program shows campers each year the positive impact of having knowledge of the law can have in shaping their further development. Who knows – there just could be a budding trial lawyer who got their start in a simple summer program striving to make a difference.”
